Research: Musee D’Orsay + Impressionism

Housed in the old Orsay train station since 1986, the Musee D’Orsay houses an impressive collection of Impressionist painting. The movement began in Paris in the late 19th century with a group of artists who were dissatisfied with ‘traditional’ art the term ‘Impressionism’ was coined by art critic Louis Leroy in a harsh review of Monet’s Impression, Soleil Levant at the Salon des Refus├ęs. The painting often had contemporary objects or people doing everyday actions for its subject, often valuing the depiction of movement and time over an accurate reflection of the subject.
