Research: Joris Laarman + Bas van Beek

Launched into the international design world with 2003 with his grad thesis project ‘Heatwave Radiator’, Joris Laarman quickly gain attention for reinventing functionality in a beautiful form. Laarman’s exploration of incarnations and motivations of everyday things helped him receieve Wallpaper’s ‘Young Designer of the Year’ award in 2004. Bas van Beek is known as one of the harshest critics of Dutch design. His projects, like Rip Offs, comment on the elitism and expensive luxuriousness of the many items made by designers in the Netherlands.
