Another graduate of Design Academy Eindhoven, Jurgen Bey gained acclaim for his designs with collective Droog Design in 1999 with his Tree Trunk Bench and Gardening Bench. He formed Studio Makkink & Bey in 2002 with architect Rianne Makkink. Their investigations into the tension between the private and public domain have recently resulted in a collaboration with UNStudio and Axia Design on PROOFF (2008). PROOFF stands for product development for the progressive office and showcases Bey’s ability to create a landscape or space within a much larger context while still accomplishing a seemingly disparate goal such as maintaining privacy. He views industrial design as no longer about just the object but now also the modes for getting there and the campus that the work occurs on.
