Designed in 1895, the Stedelijk Museum has undergone continual renovation since opening and is currently being renovated yet again according to a design by Benthem Crouwel Architekten. The new design will house 90,000 individual works and feature skylights and neon lighting that together control or simulate natural light without the harmful effects. Kazmir Malevich was a Russian painter, printmaker, and writer whose exploration of geometric abstraction through Russian Suprematism was a leading force in the development of Constructivism. Piet Mondrian started with the traditional Dutch style of painting landscapes but quickly moved on to expressionism, cubism, and a variety of styles. His contributions to Theo van Doesburg’s publication De Stijl in 1917 heavily influenced the development of Neo-Plasticism at the time.
